Do You Need a Two Page Resume Format
Do You Need a Two Page Resume Format Do You Need a Two Page Resume Format If youre like me, you might have one page only ingrained in your brain when it comes to how long a resume should be. However, once youve been in the workforce for several years, your one-page resume is likely bursting at the seams. Is a two page resume the answer? Turns out, its not as taboo as you (and I) may have thought. Can a resume be two pages?Yes, as long as the extra length is warranted. Heres the thinga two page resume is not an excuse to include everything youve ever done in your career. If youre going to ask a recruiter or hiring manager to look through two pages, it better be worth itThe two page resume is ideal, and even beneficial, for job seekers with five years or mora experience in the same career field. Recent college grads and those changing careers will likely be better suited to a one page resume. Still, it can be tricky to know whether or not the two page resume is right for you. When to use a two page resumeTo figure out if you need a two page resume or not, try first drafting a resume without any editing at all. Include everythingrelevant or not. Then, start cutting it down. Be ruthless in your trimming Any work experience that is irrelevant to the job youre applying for can be cut. If youre unsure about a piece of information, chances are its not worth including. The goal is to get rid of as much fluff as possible. Paste your resume and the job description in to the Jobscan resume optimization tool to see which skills, keywords, and experience are actually important to the job for which youre applying. When youre done trimming, how long is your resume? If its more than a page and a half, the two page resume is a good fit. If its less than a page and a half, try expanding margins and changing resume format to see if you can make it fit on one page.Benefits of a two page resumeImagine youre a recruiter. You have a pile of resumes to get through and limited time to get through them. You see one resume that is only one page, but its packed with information. Then, you see a two page resume with the same amount of information, but spread out in a way that makes it easy to skim quickly. The point? A shorter resume is not always better. You might even have more success going up against applicant tracking systems if you use a two page resume. By giving yourself extra space to expand upon important resume keywords, or even creating a keyword bank or skills section, you make your resume more compatible with those pesky resume screeners. How to Format a Two Page ResumeWhile the length will increase, the overall format of your two page resume will be similar to that of a one page resume. The bulk of your resume, especially second page, will be used for listing work experience, though the structure of the second page will vary based on the resume format you choose. Regardless of format, theres no need to include a resume header or contact information on the se cond page. Save that valuable space for your work experience. Its okay if your work experience entries are split between the two pages. What you want to avoid is having one entry split at the page break. Remember, its all about making your resume as readable as possible, both for the hiring manager and applicant tracking system. Two Page Resume Format ExamplesCheck out our two page executive resume format templates, including the template below. Two page resume example from Jobscan.

Synchronicity Creating your own luck through your own efforts
Synchronicity Creating your own luck through your own effortsSynchronicity Creating your own luck through your own effortsHumans are split between two worlds The first is the world of space and time, cause and effect, energy and matter the second is the world of histories and futures, stories and meanings, memories and hopes. The happenings of the first world can be measured and predicted as a way to understand the deep past and, sometimes, assume the far future. Cause and effect connect this world When you do something here, your actions are bound by the logic unearthed by the laws of physics. This is the world your body lives in, and its a world your body has to live in harmony with. The happenings of the second world, however, are complex and uncertain. They are a product of the collisions that occur whenever a multitude of infinitely varied experiences come together to produce new joint experiences. This is the world of our individual and collective minds. Stories and meanings conn ect this world. History is a story the future is a story memories are shaped by meaning hopes are shaped by meaning. And its this second world that makes the first world rich and granular that adds color where there is otherwise only an outline. When these two worlds come into contact with each other, something interesting happens. In a world without humans, physical processes are either deterministic or random things happen, and thats that. In a world with humans, however, they are that, sure, but they are also judged to be good or bad relative to an observer meaning what happens in the world can be valued on a spectrum, a spectrum of fortune and misfortune. The Oxford English Dictionary defines luck as Success or failure apparently brought by chance rather than through ones own actions. This definition suggests that you cant ever create luck through your own efforts but you can adjust your exposure to luck by managing your actions. The more intention you apply, and the better that i ntention aligns with reality, the less you leave up to chance. The less you leave up to chance, the less likely it is that bad luck is going to disrupt your life, and the more likely it is that good luck simply isnt needed. In a way, this is the same as creating your own luck, but it lacks the serendipity that makes luck what it is.To be lucky, then, cant primarily be about action it has to be about interpretation, about what the meaning of something is. Its leidlage hard to imagine how two people can have the same thing occur to them but make sense of this thing very differently, where one considers it to be a great fortune, while the other thinks of it as a great misfortune. The event itself is secondary. The important thing is how well the event fits into the existing story of the person experiencing said event.Managing our actions allows us to reduce the slings and arrows of chance in the first world, the world of space and time, which alters our exposure to luck both good and b ad but its only the second world, the world of stories and meanings, that enables us to create what can be called luck. There is an incident the psychotherapist Carl den kinderschuhen entwachsen shares in his biography about a client he once had, a client that came to him at a low point in his life. Over time, however, with the help of Jung, this client began to make progress. Not only that, but he even developed a great friendship with Jung. But the clients wife, a possessive woman, didnt like this. Jealous of the time her husband was spending with his therapist, she asked the man to prematurely stop the sessions against Jungs best recommendations. And he did.The way Jung tells it is that a few months later, he was at a conference out of town. He had just returned to his hotel room late at night, and as he was ready to get into bed, he heard a loud crack and then felt a sudden pressure on his skull. Looking around, he found nothing no sign of life, no sign of fallen items, no sign o f other disturbances. The next morning, however, he received a call informing him that his old client had passed away the night before. The cause? A self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head around the same time Jung was getting back to his hotel room. This story reflects a personal superstition Jung had throughout his life He was a believer in the paranormal. He thought that two people or two events could be connected to each other beyond cause and effect and through meaning that is, say, a husband and a wife who have loved each other for decades would be capable of sharing a deep, inner bond beyond actions confined by space and time, almost as if this meaning existed on a different plane of existence altogether. He called this synchronicity.Today, scientists have diverged away from Jungs superstitious intuition, and they attribute synchronicity more to coincidence than they do paranormal forces. That said, its generally accepted that it plays an important role in how we understand t he world we interact with. There might not be a logical connection between a husband feeling an uneasy pressure in his heart while at the supermarket and the heart-attack suffered by his wife of 30 years at exactly the same time elsewhere, but if thats what he feels, it completely changes how he understands his life first, in the realm of stories and meanings, and subsequently, in the realm of space and time. These examples of synchronicity may at first appear detached from the idea of luck, but at its core, the process of identifying synchronous experiences is the same as the process of creating luck. When two disparate events are connected in your mind as having a relation beyond physical cause and effect, you are creating meaning. When you create meaning, you reconfigure your attention to see more connections in a random world. When you see more connections in a random world, you are more likely to notice luck where you might not have before because your surface area of recognitio n is greater your attention is more attuned to certain surroundings. There is nothing lucky about Jungs old client taking his own life or an old mans wife suffering a heart-attack, but the fact that both people made the connections they did changes how they interact with their loved ones moving forward it changes what they remember, what they expect, what they value, what they are grateful for, what they are moved by. As long as their feet are planted on the ground in the real world, assigning the meanings they do to the coincidences in their lives only adds more beauty, more potentiality to the depth and the richness of their experiences.By definition, the creation of luck lies beyond intentional action. Its something that happens, something that happens randomly yet fits into your life perfectly. Its this fitness between randomness and the reality of our lived experiences that synchronicity helps establish, and its this same fitness that generates meaning and, thus, luck.Whether we realize it or not, we all make use of synchronicity in various non-obvious ways. Some people, naturally, do this more than others. In fact, a small minority take it so far they ignore the fact that we live in a physical world dictated by laws that dont bend to their personal expectations. And thats a problem. That said, being intentional about assigning synchronous meanings can yield gifts that are otherwise hidden, and those who ignore this possibility also ignore a level of beauty not found in a world of pure causes and pure effects. There is a certain magic that comes with generating your own luck, and if approached with humility and awe, this magic can spark up a special sense of aliveness and vividity.Personally, I spend a fair amount of time meeting new people in my life. I enjoy interesting company, so this is one of the things I value and prioritize. And yet, sometimes, meeting new people can be exhausting the novelty wears off, the next person begins to resemble the last p erson, and my own boredom with it all can make even the most fascinating encounter appear mundane. Its often the same with email. Because of my writing, Im fortunate enough to have a lot of really thoughtful people reach out to me on a daily basis. These interactions arent something I would trade for the world. But, sometimes, due to the sheer volume, it can start to feel like a task.Recently, I have started to ask myself a simple question anytime I find myself falling into these habit patterns Why is this person in my life, right now, in this particular moment? To be sure, Im not inclined towards believing that some divine plan has brought them here or that its anything more than a coincidence, but the simple act of treating it like there might be a reason for it is generally enough to open my eyes wide enough to actually see the person who they are, how their life is colliding with my own, and all of the interesting things I could potentially learn from them. And true enough Becaus e Im suddenly paying attention to the words coming out of the other persons mouth or listening to the actual voice behind the writing in the email, I notice things that I otherwise would not. Sometimes its something as simple as realizing that a certain book recommendation is exactly what I need at a particular point in my life, one that I wouldnt have found without the stranger emailing it to me, one that perhaps even changes the trajectory of my life. Other times, its seeing that the person who just introduced themselves to me has qualities that I admire, a few that I even lack, and that I find that moving and inspiring and that I want to spend more time with them, time that may even lead to a relationship that, one day, I will look back on, not able to imagine having been without. Both people and events travel along paths, and every time they merge with other paths, they create new paths. Along these new paths, there are new meanings, new coincidences, new sources of luck. But new paths dont always get walked because we dont always have the vision to take them. Synchronicity is that vision, and helped with intention, its a vision that creates and generates worlds worlds of beauty and serendipity, life and zest, but most of all, worlds of potential, the potential for something brighter, something gentler, and perhaps, something a little more human.Want to think and live smarter? 4 Times Youre Worrying Too Much at Work - The Muse
4 Times Youre Worrying Too Much at Work - The Muse4 Times Youre Worrying Too Much at WorkIf something slightly out of the ordinary happened at work- for instance, your manager called an impromptu team meeting- what would be your first reaction?A. Assume the entire department is getting laid offB. Wonder if this has anything to do with the rumors you recently heard about a new vacation policyC. Speculate how big of a bonus youre going to be awarded in front of your peersIf you picked A, you may very well be a competent, levelheaded employee- but you also tend to worry a little (or a lot) more than usual. If you picked C, youre probably on the optimistic side. The problem is, you might not worry enough- even if all the signs are there. To avoid help you hit the middle road between overconfidence and unfounded anxiety, consider these situations where youre probably worrying too much- and a few where you might not be worrying enough. 1. Your Boss Schedules a Meeting With You- With No Cle ar PurposeIts a moment that can cause a mini heart attack if youre prone to office paranoia Your anfhrer requests a one-on-one meeting- completely out of the blue and with no other purpose than We need to talk.Immediately, your mind jumps to the worst-case scenario Im obviously getting fired. Its easy to assume the worst. But its also very unlikely that with absolutely no prompting or prior warning, that your anfhrer is going to pull you into his or her office and tell you to pack your things and go. Is it possible? Sure. But in all reality, your excessive worrying is probably disproportionate to the situation. Unless Youve Been Called Out BeforeHave you been receiving informal warnings from your boss lately? Maybe last week, she stopped by your desk to ask about a report thats past due, then emailed you a few days alter reminding you that she really needs that report by the end of the day. And then, when you missed that deadline, she asked you to team up with a colleague so you cou ld work together to get it done. Spread over a couple weeks, these warnings probably just landseemed like regular workday stresses. But if something has become a recurring issue- and now youre being called into the boss office- you may be in for a more formal warning. 2. You Made a Major MistakeIts happened to everyone. Youre typically a stellar employee, but one day, you mess up at work- big time. You overcharged a client, completely forgot about a big assignment and subsequently missed the deadline, or botched the numbers on a report that was the basis for the next quarters budget. Youre certainly getting fired for this, right?OK, your mistake may have some consequences. You may have made yourself, your boss, or your department look bad- and youll probably need to do some damage control. But if you have an even somewhat reasonable boss, he or she will be willing to guide you through a resolution. Why? Because everyone makes mistakes. And especially if this is out of character for you and wasnt done intentionally, its probably not going to be reason enough to give you the boot. As long as you learn from it- and figure out a way to never do it again- youre going to be fine. Unless Your Company or Boss Is Historically UnreasonableOf course, every company is different. And if your particular company has a track record of going completely ballistic on employees who make mistakes- i.e., walking them out the door with no system of strikes or warnings- or your boss has no patience for any kind of error, you may have more cause to worry. 3. Everyone Was Invited Except YouYou log on Facebook over the weekend, and you see a string of pictures from your colleagues barbeque, filled with the faces of almost all of your co-workers- except you. Or a group of your teammates get up and head to lunch together on Friday afternoon without a glance your way. Immediately, its clear to you that everyone hates you, you dont fit in, and eventually, youre going to be forced out by per sonality differences. Except, it was probably a one-off situation. Maybe your teammates went to lunch to discuss a particular project. Maybe the host of the barbeque is closer with your other co-workers than she is with you. You dont have to get invited to everything. And you certainly cant let it make you worry excessively.Unless Its Happening All the TimeIf you literally never get invited to a single lunch, coffee, or happy hour, there may be cause for concern. For example, maybe everyone has the impression that youre a workaholic and would never leave your desk to go grab lunch, even if you were invited. Or youve said no so many times that no one bothers to invite you anymore. Or you simply dont show interest in you co-workers lives by asking questions or chatting during breaks, so you havent really developed any friendships. Sure, you probably wont get fired for not socializing with your team, but it could point to a different problem- like a practically nonexistent work-life ba lance. 4. Your Boss Takes a Project Off Your PlateLets say youve been working on a certain project for what seems like forever. You always write the weekly company newsletter. Its been that way since you started with the company three years ago.Until your boss lets you know that hes taking that newsletter off your plate and assigning it to your co-worker. Does your boss think youre incompetent? That youve been doing a terrible job with the newsletter? That he needs to transition all your work so he can fire you, but still have someone to cover your responsibilities? Actually, probably not. In most cases, your boss likely has good intentions- like he thinks youve grown beyond a certain project and are ready to take on something more advanced. Or maybe he wants you to get away from the task so you can transition into a managerial role and mentor the person who was assigned to take it over. Unless Youre Actually Not Benefitting in the EndHowever, there may be cause to be worried if you dont see any benefit- ever. So your boss takes a project off your plate, but doesnt ever replace it. You stay in the same role, with no additional responsibilities. And then he takes another project away, followed by another. While you may momentarily enjoy the lightened load and extra free time, it may be a sign that youre not performing well or your role is no longer needed. In most cases, worrying excessively in these situations is probably only causing you unneeded stress. However, you also shouldnt ignore the writing on the wall. Strike the right balance between the two, and youll be just fine.Photo of worried person courtesy of Shutterstock.

How to tell if youre clingy and what to do about it
How to tell if youre clingy and what to do about itHow to tell if youre clingy and what to do about itWhen it comes to anew relationship, some love the chase, others find it exhausting. Once its more solidified, some enjoy spending every free moment with their partner, others need their space.Figuring out how to act from day one in a relationship isnt easy - do you text again or give him space? Do you see him on FridayandSaturday or figure he needs a night off? Is it normal to analyze his social media activity or are you inching toward obsessive danger? Why people become clingyIts normal to want to spend a lot of time with the person youre dating and do what you can to know them better, especially when things are extra new and therefore extra exciting, but its possible to take it too far and need to take a step back.Follow Ladders on FlipboardFollow Ladders magazines on Flipboard covering Happiness, Productivity, Job Satisfaction, Neuroscience, and moreRachel ONeill, an Ohio licensed professional clinical counselor and Talkspace provider, says there are a number of contributors to someone becoming clingy.Often, it can be due to feelings of insecurity, self-doubt oranxiety about the future, she said. A lack of confidence in relationships can also contribute to clinginess. For some people, the idea of being alone can be uncomfortable and so they may cling to other individuals in an effort to avoid feelings of loneliness. But whats the difference between finding comfort in your partner and being anxiously attached? How do you know if youre suffering from emotional neediness and sensitivity to rejection instead of just being madly in love? According to ONeill, there are some quick, easy signs. Youhave a hard time being alone, you struggle when your friends or partner ask for space, you are afraid that people will want to spend time without you, she said.To those who are clingy, extreme thoughts and actions look and feel a lot likelove and intimacy and they dont want to let a good thing go. The problem is that this feeling - the obsession with physical and mental closeness that can come off as clingy - is not love. How to manage your behaviorTo move past dependent behavior, there are a number of things you can do by yourself that make you feel good. Its important, when spending time alone,to be able to still find happiness. Realize that being on your own is okay. Do things that you enjoy and try to develop your interests or hobbies. Try to listen to feedback from your friends and family. Practice rahmen boundaries and sticking with them.If you recognize your behavior as clingy, talking about your insecurities with your partner can also help. ONeill says your attachment could be a result of past negative relationship experiences, which have led to a difficulty in trusting others. You may feel that if you dont try to control a situation, something badeanstalt may happen. Talking about it with your partner will help give you that sense of securit y you crave. The most important step, ONeill says, is acknowledging your actions. The first step in working to overcome it is to be aware that its happening, she said. Notice your tendency to be clingy and then take steps to focus on letting go of some of that need to control. You might still feel those urges to be clingy, however, you dont have to act on those feelings.Understand your behaviors and how to move past themAt the end of the day, we all have needs. Abraham Maslow categorized this best with his Hierarchy of Needs - the need for food and sleep, to feel secure, and for belonging and love. These needs are all important and carry a profound weight in our lives, but being overly needy is bad for your health and your relationship with your partner.Talking to a therapist can help you put your behavior into perspective andobjectify the source of your clinginess. It could be that you have an anxiety disorder that needs professional attention, but it could also be that your partne r isnt reliable and your fears are actually grounded in reality. Talking through it with a professional can make you feel like youre not on an island alone and validate whether or not youre in a relationship thats right for you and your mental health. This article originally appeared on Talkspace. You might also enjoyNew neuroscience reveals 4 rituals that will make you happyStrangers know your social class in the first seven words you say, study finds10 lessons from Benjamin Franklins daily schedule that will double your productivityThe worst mistakes you can make in an interview, according to 12 CEOs10 habits of mentally strong people

A deep dive into how to properly ask for a raise
A deep dive into how to properly ask for a raiseA deep dive into how to properly ask for a raiseOften, whether or not youre offered a raise has little to do with your job performance. Instead, your compensation may be based on your departments budget, your managers priorities, and (in some cases) whether or not your employer thinks they can keep you doing such a great job for cheap. The bottom line is this To get a raise in this non-merit-based world, youve got to make the case for it. Heres a deep dive into how. What to say when asking for a raiseYou have to be strategic when asking for a raise. The specifics will depend on your job, your goals, and your individual situation, but there are a few tactics you could take that work across fruchtwein industries. Adjust as necessary to fit your situation.Define your goals and ask for adviceBefore you the raise conversation, sit down with your manager and make koranvers they know what your goals are. Tell them that your first priority is to do a great job in the role youre in- but that youve got your sights on advancement. Then ask for your managers advice. Solicit feedback on the job youre doing, and enlist their help in setting you up to make the next move. Implement their advice, and let your manager see that youre doing everything you can to meet their requirements. This puts you in a stronger location when you do sit down to have that raise conversation down the line.Toot your own hornBecause no one else is gonna toot it for you.Assume people at work will take you for granted- thats why you need to make koranvers they notice your achievements. Be proactive and systematic in communicating your successes.Track down the results of your projects, assemble numbers and data, and make sure your anfhrer knows the impact youre having. Keep them informed on the outcome of what youve done, and dont be shy about sharing often. This way, by the time you ask for a raise, your boss knows youve earned it.Demonstrate your valueThe m ost persuasive data across most industries is money- how much you saved or earned your company. If you can walk into a raise conversation with ansicht numbers in your back pocket, your boss will clearly see the cost-benefit analysis of giving you a raise. But even if you cant tie specific dollar amounts to your value, you can still make sure your boss knows what youre worth. Give concrete details about the outcome of projects youve managed and specific accomplishments youre responsible for.Tell a story about a problem you solved- start with the state things were in before you stepped in move on to what you did and then talk about the outcome. What youre essentially doing is developing a testimonial- and you can develop as many of these as you have accomplishments.Keep short versions of these testimonials in your pocket for when youre having a more casual conversation with your boss- and a longer version for when youre sitting down across from them to ask for a raise.Keep the focus on why you deserve more, not why you need moreThe cold truth is, you mightneedmore money. Bills dont pay themselves. But your boss is not going to be as moved by your story of need as they will by a different story one where youre highly valuable and might move somewhere else if they dont try to keep you.Your boss wants to reward you based on performance, not need. Avoid bringing up personal reasons for needing a raise. Stick to successes youve had on the job, and tie them to concrete numbers as much as possible.Anticipate your bosss objectionsWhat are all the reasons your boss might say no? Give some thought to these- and have a plan for how youll respond. Consider your bosss point of view- what are their priorities? How can giving you a raise serve their needs?Once youve written out some of your bosss possible responses and your answers to those, practice. Get a friend or trusted colleague to read the dialogue with you. Get used to keeping your cool and meeting these responses with well-reasoned answers.Focus on shared goalsThe language you use is important. Focus on how paying you more benefits the entire company, not just yourself- and express your desire to help the team and excel in your role and career with the company. This is particularly key for women. According to a recentHarvard study, women are often unfairly perceived as selfish when asking for a raise- much more so than men- and have to be especially careful not to come across as self-serving.Using we language- focusing onweandourinstead ofIandmystatements- can be an easy shortcut to using the kind of inclusive language that wont turn your boss off.How much should you ask for a raise? To determine whats a good pay raise for you, youll have to do some research.Go onPayscale.com,Salary.com,Glassdoors Know Your Worth tool, or theOccupational Outlook Handbook. Look up the average salary for your position and your part of the country. Find out what other people are making. If youre underpaid, youll need t o know that going in. Asking for the median salary for people in your job description and location is generally easier asking for a number in the top of the range can be done, but youll need to justify it.Do you have more education than most people in your position? Do you have more experience than most? Are you worth a lot to the company (in terms of the amount youve either saved or earned for them)? These are all important justifications you can use when asking for a raise at the top of the typical pay scale.Bear in mind that the average raise percentage is somewhere between 1 and 5%. The bigger the raise youre asking for, the more youll have to demonstrate an extraordinary contribution and value to your company. How to ask for a raise when you are underpaidDuring your salary research, you might find that youre criminally underpaid.Take a deep breath- go punch something inanimate if you have to- and then start formulating your strategy. The tactics for asking for a raise when youre underpaid are similar to those when you arent- but it helps to know the numbers. Walk in with data on how much people are paid in your position and area, using a range of tools.Consider your bosss objections, too. For instance, maybe the reason you make less is that you have less education than most people in your position. One way to respond to this is with concrete numbers about how youve benefited the company, showing a clear, dollar-sign value for your work. How to ask for a raise when given more responsibilityYour boss trusts you to take on more- and thats great But make sure youre not being asked to do more work for the same pay.Gaining more responsibility is a great sign, but you may have to push for a corresponding pay raise. First, document all your new responsibilities. Write down the tasks youre responsible for on a daily basis, and note how each one contributes to the company. Track the positive outcomes of any projects youve done.If the new responsibilities youre taking on correspond to a specific job role in addition to the one you currently serve, know what people in that role are getting paid in your area. Walk in with a strong idea of whats realistic to ask for, given the market. How long do you wait to ask for a raise? The standard answer to this question is one year. However, some situations arent standard. For instance, if your job has significantly changed, or if youve taken on more responsibilities than you had when you first started, you have good reason to ask for a raise before that time. How to ask for a raise in writingIf you decide to ask for a raise in writing, youll need to build your case in writing.First, consider your audience. Your boss is much more likely to want to give you a pay raise if it benefitsthem, not necessarily you. For instance, if youd be tough to replace or if youve earned or saved your company a lot of money, or if you have rare skills.Consider what makes you valuable and hard to replace. With that information in min d, here are a few tipsRead over your original job descriptions. Pull out the most important bullet points and list the ways you go above and beyond on those.Track the outcomes of your projects and initiatives, and state clearly the benefits theyve brought to the company. List specific numbers and percentages- especially dollars saved or earned- whenever possible.Express how youve gone above and beyond in your role- and the results youve had. Tell a story that starts with a problem, details how you solved it, and shows the positive outcome clearly.Be clear about the amount of increase you want. Do your research beforehand and know what people in your role and area are getting paid, and know whats a reasonable amount. If youre asking for money on the top end of the pay scale, be prepared to justify that.Stay positive, and emphasize your commitment to the company and the team. What is the average salary increase for 2018?Not so great. fruchtwein companies are planning to raise wages abo ut 3% in 2018. Thats downright stingy. However, theres hope. According to theJune Job Market Update, unemployment in the United States is currently around 4%- and companies are struggling both to fill positions and hold on to their current workforce. That means your company might be desperate to keep you, even if that desperation isnt showing up in your paycheck. It means, in other words, that your boss may be particularly receptive to the idea that to keep you around, they have to boost your pay.But every industry is different, which is why its so important to do your research and keep your number realistic.Whats an example of how to ask your boss for a raise? We can give you all the advice you want- but sometimes what you need is a concrete example. Dont say we didnt ever do anything for you. This shouldnt be copied word-for-word, of course- and it may not work for your industry. But heres a very general example of how to make the anfangsbuchstabe ask in writing, including a request t o meet to finalize the details.Dear Your Boss,Ive enjoyed working as a Sales Associate at ABC Company for the past five years, and feel Ive grown a great deal in my career.
